WIRED Visits Flood Network in Oxford

James Temperton of WIRED UK came up to Oxford to see how we're using wireless technology and drones with flooding. We showed him flood sensors from the Oxford Flood Network and the TV Whitespace backhaul network, both developed with Nominet.

As Simon McCalla, Nominet's CTO, demonstrated a flood sensor attached to a drone we discussed the future possibilities offered by drones in flood-hit environments.

Community flood sensor and gateway hardware.

Aside from fulfilling a long-term goal of being featured in WIRED I was glad to be able to talk about the technology behind Flood Network.

Working with cutting-edge technology such as the Internet of Things, low-power wireless sensor networks, TV Whitespace and drones we've gained critical expertise showing how hardware and software can solve real-world problems.
